We adopted Forrest last spring and he has turned into a very loving and nice little guy!  Domino still gets up and leaves if Forrest jumps up in the bed or in the same chair, but you can't have everything!  They put up with each other rather nicely, but are definitely jealous of attention. The competition foremost in Forrest's mind (other than protecting his rawhide chew from the thieving Domino) is “who gets to be the first one out the door!”  I do not understand why this is such a big deal to such a little dog…

SHANE, now known as ZIGGY, was rescued by veterinarian Dr. Larry White's vet tech Joan while he was trying to cross busy Richmond Avenue. Not locating the owner, Briarcrest Veterinary Clinic provided him room and board, and groomer Chikako Archbold gave him his beautiful new look before contacting MSRH to find him a new home. Just in time for the Easter Bunny, Ziggy went to his loving forever home with Sonya and her family. This photo is of Ziggy on his first day home. Ziggy has a very mild temperament and seems to be the perfect boy, not bothering a thing in the house. He loves to curl up on the sofa and has adjusted well to his new home. The typical schnauzer, Ziggy is enjoying his car trips and running errands with Sonya, who says he talks to her when she talks to him. She's ready to get a carrier to take him in stores with her that allow pets! A little on the thin side from "living off the land" as a stray, Ziggy is quickly gaining weight and growing a beautiful shiny coat. Ziggy is truly a lucky little schnauzer, as he was rescued on St. Patrick's Day 2005. Luck and Happiness always to Ziggy and his new loving family. Keep us posted on your adventures, Ziggy and Sonya!

We adopted Thor in May of 2004. Brenden was helping me groom when he was brought in to be vetted. Brenden doesn't usually get involved with rescue dogs but as soon as he met up with Thor, well………. its history for both of them. We just love him so much and couldn't picture our house without him. He loves and is very protective of all of his sisters and brothers.  Pictured from left to right:  Kandi, Misty, Thor and Shadow. Thank you MSRH! Jeff, Sandra & Brenden Board

We adopted him last Christmas, and we could not love him more!  He's such a huge part of our family now.  He's especially close to my husband--fitting since with me and our 2 daughters, they are the only males in the house!  He loves to play fetch and he LOVES his toys.  I work at home and he often comes up to me when I'm on the computer and lays his head in my lap or drops his toys at my feet to toss for him.  He's such a good boy and loves snuggle up to us on the couch while we're watching TV.  He goes into our daughters' room at night to check up on them.  He peers out the living room window to watch my husband leave for work in the mornings and comes running to the door when he hears his truck in the afternoons.  We just love him and I know he loves being here too.

I'm so glad I found your website and I'm grateful that you didn't grow tired of my many, many phone calls to you, Karen!  Oliver is great and we're looking forward to many, many, many happy years with him!

These are a couple of our latest pictures of Oliver...He's such a handsome boy...and such a camera ham!  When ever he sees the camera, he stops whatever he's doing and perks up his ears.  The other picture is of Oliver and my husband "singing!"

Thanks again for bringing Oliver into our lives!

Hi there,
My mom Suzy Seed adopted Chance a few months ago and I have had the opertunity to dog sit him as well as his new brother and sister and I must tell you that Chance is a wonderful addition to our family. He is one of the best trained dogs ever and if you can belive this when he is happy he actually looks like he is smiling. Chance in the short time he has been here has already made a number of new friends in the neighborhood and his passion we have found is chasing squirrls. We love him and I just wanted to thank you for allowing us to include him in our family! I have enclosed a picture I took of him and you can see how good he looks!

Thank you again,
Lee Anne Seed

We cannot possibly tell you with words how much joy this little "Abbey" has brought to our home. We just returned from our morning walk (we all three get two walks each day), and everybody she met (four leggers as well as two-leggers) just immediately warmed to Abbey...and she to them. Thank thank you Sooooooo much for all that you guys DO!

We are settling in well at the Franklin house. Timmy seems to be totally at home. He is so sweet and relaxed, I think he knows he's finally home. Nick has gotten a little jealous but not in a vicious way. He was pretty spoiled having all the attention. They are tolerating each other and I think in time, they might even enjoy one another.

I am so grateful I contacted Houston Schnauzer Rescue and so happy you called me about Timmy. He is the perfect dog and we are just ecstatic to have found him.

Here are some pictures of the two. Take care and know that you made us extremely happy!

Liesl is finally in her forever home with Judy Lynch and brother Guenther.

Liesl is getting more loving and trusting as time goes by.  I can't believe it's only been 3 months.  She is so much apart of the family and I love her so much.  I can't imagine why anyone would want to give her up!  I'm sending a picture of her in her new "burrowing bed"  to appeal to her sense burrowing under the bed covers.  They stay in the gated kitchen area while I'm at work.  At night they sleep with me.  Liesl is very smart, a quick learner, and moves very fast. They are partners in crime.  They chase anything that moves-squirrels, frogs, lizards, bugs, etc.  This week the dogs both got skunked!

I had my 8 y/o and 11 y/o cousins separately stay the weekend with me.  She did very well with the kids.  One weekend, when I had a couple over for dinner.  Liesl was flirting with the man!  She would sit close to him, bat her eyes, paw at him, lick his arm, etc.  His wife even said she was jealous!  She really likes men!   She must have been really attached to her foster daddy!  Her and Guenther play well together.  But being the feisty girl that she is, she challenges him regularly.

Gus and Greta are doing great.  Greta wasn't so sure about him at first, but now they are inseparable.  Gus is starting to put on some more weight, which makes me very happy.  He is well behaved and just as lovable as can be (in fact he's laying on his back in my lap as I try to type this e-mail).  They both are doing a super job of protecting me and our house. Greta and I are glad that Gus has come to join our family.  I'm sending a picture of the 2 of them together (sorry, I took it on my cell phone so it's not the greatest quality.  As soon as I get some developed of the two I'll send a better one).  Thanks again for matching Greta and I up with Gus.  I will check in with you again soon!

Mathew and Maggie (the Princess) Smith.  Bev rescued her from a breeder who did not want her and had to beg her to let her buy Maggie so that nothing ill would come of her.  Ms Maggie has been in the Smith family approx 6 yrs.  She now knows "heaven on earth".

Hi Denna and Karen! Mom tells me that today is my one year adoption anniversary! I don't know what that means but I hope it involves treats! Mom and Dad have been taking very good care of me here in the Heights. I basically rule the roost…but don't tell them I said that, they still think that obedience training is working – ha! I've learned to sit and stay and do some tricks since coming to live with my new Mom and Dad, but my favorite thing is still to snuggle with them and be the center of attention. I guard the house pretty well – Mom definitely knows if there is someone at the door!  And those pesky squirrels in the back yard all know to fear me…I even set the house alarm off with the barking I do when I see one! I have some doggy friends but for the most part I prefer humans…because I am one, right? I even have my own special bed that dad has to ‘make' for me at night. I am a spoiled pup!.

Thanks again for the love and care you gave me before Mom and Dad came to pick me up! I am one lucky schnauzer girl…

My family had lost our beloved Golden Retriever, Levi last September of a heart condition. Our hearts were empty and we found after a year it was time to open our hearts and home to at least one adorable homeless pet. I decided to look into shelters and searched petfinder.com in search of our perfect newest family member. Have had goldens in the past we decided to give a smaller breed a consideration. My mother has 2 adorable schnauzers, Strudel and Tank - they have always been a welcoming duo and they had the sweetest dispositions as puppies and matured into loving adults. Instead of seeking out the most expensive and top name breeders of this breed, we decided it would be nice to have a rescue baby.

After searching petfinder.com and the Minature Schanuzer Rescue of Houston website, we completed the application and had our eyes set on a wonderful little duo, Heidi & Gunnar, who were given back to the same rescue organization, they had been adopted out in September of 03 to a couple who just recently found out their jobs were taing them to the eastern part of Siberia, and we all know the climate in Russia would kill these dogs. As sad as it seems, (these two coming in and out of a rescue) they have now found their forever home with us.

We have had them a little over a week and they have adjusted very well. They have settled in and now have free roam of the house and this is now their castle and they are the new king and queen. We are truly blessed to have been given the opportunity to take these two in. We love them as if we have had them forever... We know there is never a replacement for a pet, and Levi would be a hard act to follow, but at least the holes in our hearts from the loss of Levi have been filled with 2 beautiful babies. I am hoping that one day every rescue animal finds a special home.

Hi, My name is Jake ...  My new mama and her other dog, Hannah, a Shih Tzu, adopted me about two weeks ago...  Hannah doesn't like having her picture taken, so it's just me in the photo.  I love my new yard !!!  I finally have a place to run and sniff and to chase birds and squirrels !!  I have to sniff every blade of grass in the yard at least ten times a day  :)   I love the dogs and the little kids next door, too !!  My sister, Hannah, seems to like me; but, she won't let me sleep in her bed.  My new mama bought a bed just for me and I love it !!!   So far, my new mama thinks I'm pretty smart...  I can sit and fetch a ball !!  She's trying to teach me to "stay" when she opens the doors to the big outdoors, so I play her little game every now and then, so I can get a treat !!  Boy, do I have her fooled !!      She says that I am a sweetie and is so glad that I am in her life !!  I'm so happy at my new home !!  Thanks MSRH for helping me get rid of those nasty heartworms !!  My mama says she will send you guys another picture of me once my hair grows out :)

Love, Jake

Chase is doing great!  He's such a funny little guy and the whole family just loves him!  He's so goofy and keeps us laughing all the time.   I'm so glad that I saw him on the MSHR website and was able to adopt him.  He's added so much to our family and we can't imagine life without him.

As you can see, I've attached a few photos for you.  He's such a sweetie!!!!  Bailey (GSD mix or Belgian Malinois mix) is the brown dog (and his wrestling buddy) and Cowboy is our white German Shepherd. Chase is definitely a ham because he poses for pictures automatically! We also call him our little billy goat because he's always jumping up on the back of the couches so he can see what's going on.  Life just wouldn't be the same without him!
